For the hardcore fans.
It’s that special time again where we delve into the terrifying depths of The Fireman’s Curse era, featuring the sounds of a band internally disintegrating while making some fascinating music. Not a sniff of any live recordings from this era – or of songs from this era – exist anywhere but here at True Believers.
This week we have lifted a live version of what we believe is the best album track on The Fireman’s Curse – Sway. “Should have been the album title,” Rob mentioned recently, agreeing with the idea that it’s the highlight of the album. Sway was also released as the second and final single from the album, failing to chart anywhere.
The recording is imperfect – there’s a little bit of audible interference in the quieter parts. We have also included a bit of prelude banter – it was a different world…
This has to be one of my favorite Vault releases so far. This has to be the most underrated song they ever released that should have been on the compilations. Where the earlier material was rattly noisy and excitable, Sway shows some maturity and lots of sophistication in what they were doing.
Also what is really interesting is the guitar work of Martin Lubran who creates these really interesting sonic washes all over the Curse album but can be heard really well in the first part of this recording doing so.
Shame the band never realised how good they actually were during this period.
