While doing the second round of Vault recording a little over one month ago, I received this excellent request from Glenn:
One of my favorite songs from the Human Frailty era is This Morning. I was wondering if among the plethora of material you are going through at the moment whether you have an acoustic version you could share with is all…
Privately thinking “oh heck, people have got to realise that some things really are impossible”, I responded:
I may have to ask for a second request =) I am pretty sure I haven’t come across an acoustic performance of This Morning…
At this stage of recording, I had converted well over 200 recordings and only had a handful left to go. One of these, done a couple of days after sending the above e-mail, was labelled Continental. For some reason, I thought it was going to be similar to what was on Living in Large Rooms and Lounges. So it was a low priority. However, to my great surprise, there were some interesting acoustic tracks that had missed making the album.
Then, out of nowhere, the track that was not meant to not exist… This Morning in acoustic form. So Glenn, I’m pleased to eat my words – here it is!
For the new fans, This Morning is a favourite album track from the Human Frailty album; recently also covered by Missy Higgins and Matt Corby on the Crucible tribute album.
Sounds great Stuart!
I can’t imagine what else might be on that Continental cassette…..
Well… they are full 90 minute plus gigs; all acoustic. We seem to have half of 1995 05 05 but all of 1995 05 06 and 1995 05 07. I’ve just flicked through 1995 05 07, and it’s got pretty well all of the acoustic disc from Living in Large Rooms; a couple previously seen in acoustic format on the Holy Grail single (Tears; Where Do You Go?); one seen acoustic on The Way You Live single (Do You See What I See?), a few we’ve already let loose in The Vault in acoustic form (Hear No Evil, Lorelei, now This Morning). This leaves about eight tracks; though at least two of these are very similar to existing live versions. One is quite unexpected and I will surely give a run soon.
