Raw Material #02: 1981 12 13 Festival Theatre, Adelaide, Australia

H&C Raw Material – The Desk Tapes.

40 years ago, Hunters and Collectors found themselves in Adelaide. Many changes had occurred since the first gig back in May (an earlier desk tape in this series). The songs had slowed down. The horns of contempt had joined. The band was hitting it’s stride.

Whilst only a 46 minute recording, there are many great moments to be experienced. Opener World Of Stone takes us into another time and place. The eight minute Skin Of Our Teeth is unforgettable. Closing rarity Rendering Room is as good as anything that made it to vinyl.

For reasons unknown, this specific desk tape lacks some of the issues of other desk tapes of the era. All other era desk tapes had Mark’s vocal on the left channel and everything else on the right channel. Yet we can almost hear you calling out for “Run Run Run”…

However, this will do us for 2021. See you next year at the Red Hot Summer Tour and back here for the remaining eight desk tapes!

This is a truly remarkable recording. Sound quality is really good with great atmosphere and the guitar sound and playing is extraordinary. The bass, drums, percussion and Mark are great as usual, and then on top of that the horns and the mystic keyboard sound!!!
This would be a great live LP release for the record store day.
