The comeback of Australian rockers Hunters & Collectors will include a stopover in Launceston in March.
The band, whose catalogue of hits includes iconic tracks such as Holy Grail and Throw Your Arms Around Me, will headline the A Day on the Green concert at Josef Chromy Wines at Relbia on Saturday, March 15, with Something For Kate and British India in supporting roles.
It will be part of a run of 10 shows around the country, the band’s first tour since 1998.
Hunters & Collectors have reformed recently off the back of a tribute album Crucible – The Songs of Hunters & Collectors, which sees acts such as Birds of Tokyo, Something For Kate, British India, The Rubens, Missy Higgins, Neil Finn and Eddie Vedder give their interpretation of the band’s songs.
Frontman Mark Seymour said it was a project that was “multi-generational’, just like the A Day On The Green concert series.
“The concerts reach a very broad audience and is multi-generational,” Seymour said.
“It’s a smart idea that has developed and grown very quickly, and the concept is just a really great idea, as it doesn’t marginalise people.
“It is very much about regional communities and it is very much about getting in touch with regional Australia.”
Promoter Michael Newton said he was delighted to have Hunters & Collectors at Relbia.
“Over the years the Hunters never lost that urgent, primal, hard sound and when you see them live its a fantastic experience,” he said.
“They are a unique band with a lot of great songs, so we know it is a show not to be missed. And Josef Chromy Wines is such a beautiful setting.
“We’ve really enjoyed all the shows we’ve done there, the crowds have always been fantastic.”
Hunters & Collectors will first perform at the AFL Grand Final in Melbourne on Saturday, in what will be the first steps of their second music life.
