Hunters & Collectors and Birds Of Tokyo will headline the entertainment at this year’s 2013 Toyota AFL Grand Final, played at the MCG on Saturday 28 September. Hunters & Collectors will perform at the Virgin Australia half-time show, while Birds Of Tokyo will play in the lead-up to the first bounce.
Both bands will also perform at The Virgin Australia Premiership Party – the free post-match fan event open to the public – following the conclusion of the game. The 2013 AFL Premiers will also be presented for the first time to fans at The Premiership Party.
Tina Arena will sing the Australian national anthem before the game.
This will be Hunters & Collectors’ first live performance since 2009, when they played the Sound Relief concert at the MCG. Along with a two-song set to celebrate their induction into the ARIA Hall Of Fame in 2005, there have been no other live performances from the band since splitting in 1998.
A 15-song Hunters tribute album, Crucible – The Songs Of Hunters & Collectors, featuring the likes of Eddie Vedder and Neil Finn, Birds Of Tokyo, The Rubens and an exclusive Avalanches remix, will be released on September 27.
Hunters & Collectors will also support Bruce Springsteen at his Melbourne concerts next year.
