“Meanwhile Red Hot Summer is looming…”

Right before surgery, lying on the gurney waiting for the cut, the anaesthetist walks in and cracks a good one about having seen you perform at the ANU bar ‘in my wild years’ he said.. he was right down the front slamming with his mates and apparently

‘ you lost it mate’.. ha!

And anyway.. good luck.. you won’t feel a thing.’.

Which was true enough I thought, right at the last moment before they slipped the needle in..

‘If I don’t come out the other end it won’t matter anyway..

Next thing I knew I was lying in bed numb from the waist down with a knee looking like a chrissy ham wrapped in gauze..

Which is when I fell in love with medical science..

Before all that, my knee had been ‘rooted’ I was told which says a lot for the tech they used, given I walked of the stage in Manly last Friday night, skipped a couple of times limp free which matters greatly given the tripping hazards.

Put it this way, I had no choice. Needless to say I’ve been going ‘round raving about the ‘process’ as though I was born for it and watching peoples’ eyes glaze over.

‘It’s amazing what they can do these days’.. etc..

Meanwhile Red Hot Summer is looming with Vika and Linda. Rehearsals next week. First gig in Mackay October 11 and then all around the place. Drives, airports, footy ovals and the occasional chat with my brother Nick who will grace the stage some time after..

By the way, we’ve just emerged from the studio. New songs are looming. Which means a new album next year,
