When we play in this format, it gets fairly emotional and confronting.. especially for me, and I should say, much of the material on this new album is very personal.
Greetings,
We finally launched ‘The Boxer’ album.. At an actual event in a pub with a stage for invitees, friends, family and various industry professionals we’ve run into many times, who’ve helped us out along the way.. What you might call a private function.
Small beer you might think but honestly, it felt like a storm breaking, the build up has been so long. Months in fact. You’d think I’d be used to it by now but gigs like this have a ‘churchy’ feeling to them.
Quite formal in fact. Not something I’ve done for a long time.. It was in a downstairs basement bar underneath the Newmarket Hotel in Inkerman Street St.Kilda..
Naturally I had to sing a few tunes to break the ice. Four songs and it was the first time for all of them. People were more than gracious but I’m pretty sure there were several who’d not seen me perform in that stripped down way before..
Myself on acoustic guitar and Cameron McKenzie on electric..
Our approach has changed dramatically over the years. When we play in this format, it gets fairly emotional and confronting.. especially for me, and I should say, much of the material on this new album is very personal.
That’s the nature of releasing new music. You have to change if you’re serious about creating new sounds, to get the stage right and present the songs in the most truthful way you can..
Apart from that I’ve been doing a lot of time in Sydney, recording video with the very talented Stuart Spence whose work will emerge on FB and Instagram over the next few weeks.. as we roll out songs from “The Boxer”
A highlight for me last week was the rooftop shoot in Fitzroy featuring a duet with Linda Bull and her daughter Kiki.. It’s called ‘Waiting on the Kid’
So you could say, once an album is released there’s no turning back. We will be hitting the road very soon
