[13 November 2023] Bloodlines Music, part of the Mushroom Group, is proud to announce The Boxer, the new album for Mark Seymour & The Undertow.

The first single from the album – the title track – will be released in February, followed by the album in April.

The Boxer is Mark Seymour’s 11th solo studio album, and the fifth to be credited to Mark Seymour & The Undertow, featuring Cameron McKenzie on guitars, John Favaro on bass, and Peter Maslen on drums, with special guest Cameron Bruce on keys.

“As the Mushroom Group celebrates 50 years, we’re honoured to have a brand-new album from Mark Seymour, one of our greatest songwriters,” Bloodlines Managing Director Dean McLachlan says. “Mark has been part of the Mushroom family for more than 40 years and The Boxer is, in my humble opinion, his finest hour.”

“We’ve thrown everything at these songs,” Mark says. “Portraits of women, men, urban decay. Life in a landscape of uncertainty. And love, of course. You can never abandon that. After all, beyond despair, there is nothing else.”

Mark is a recent convert to boxing. “Boxing taught me how to let go of anger and find self-respect. There are no angry songs on this record.”

Mark and his long-time band The Undertow have announced they’ll be going on the road playing songs from The Boxer along with a mix of fan favourites and iconic songs from across the full spectrum of Mark’s storied 40-year career.

The Boxer is the first release for Mark Seymour & The Undertow since 2020’s acclaimed Slow Dawn (“Arguably the finest album of Seymour’s storied career” – Rhythms. “Album of the year? Without a doubt.” – STACK).
