Mark Seymour & The Undertow Announce New Album ‘The Boxer’ & Massive Australian Tour

“‘The Boxer’ is, in my humble opinion, his finest hour.”

Mark Seymour & The Undertow are back, announcing a new album, The Boxer, and a corresponding tour scheduled for April 2024. The group will tour throughout April, May and June 2024, touring Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia and South Australia. You can find all the dates below.

“We’ve thrown everything at these songs,” Seymour commented in a press release. “Portraits of women, men, urban decay. Life in a landscape of uncertainty. And love, of course. You can never abandon that. After all, beyond despair, there is nothing else.”

The title track for the album will be released in February 2024, with the album dropping in April via Bloodlines – a subsidiary of the Mushroom Group.

Seymour added about his eleventh solo album starring The Undertow – Cameron McKenzie on guitar, John Favaro on bass and Peter Maslen on drums, as well as special guest Cameron Bruce on keys – “Boxing taught me how to let go of anger and find self-respect. There are no angry songs on this record.”

You can pre-order The Boxer here and buy tickets to Mark Seymour & The Undertow’s upcoming tour here.

“As the Mushroom Group celebrates 50 years, we’re honoured to have a brand-new album from Mark Seymour, one of our greatest songwriters,” Bloodlines Managing Director Dean McLachlan said in a statement. “Mark has been part of the Mushroom family for more than 40 years, and The Boxer is, in my humble opinion, his finest hour.”

The Boxer follows Mark Seymour & The Undertow’s most recent album, 2020’s Slow Dawn.

In September, Mark Seymour & The Undertow and special guest Kate Miller-Heidke were announced as the halftime entertainers at the AFL Grand Final.

Seymour said about his return to the G for the 2023 AFL Grand Final in a press release (via the AFL website), “I’m very excited to be back at the MCG to perform on this great day on our national sporting calendar and to have the opportunity to sing songs in celebration of our game.”
