“Where did they all come from?” … “Everywhere” he said.

Greetings Punters

It’s no secret how much chaos the music industry has endured over the last two years..

Despite all advance planning, the virus has had different ideas. Gigs booked, cancelled and re-scheduled. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned from the pandemic it’s how closely linked the working lives of music industry workers really are and how much we depend on each other for our survival as artists and crew.

but it’s not only about us.

Live music plays an integral role in the emotional life of thousands of Australians and there was no better proof than the sheer enthusiasm and laughter that was on full display two weeks ago when we finally got to walk on stage in a country hall on the side of the road in East Gippsland.

A place called Bundalaguah.

Two dates back to back, in a room packed with locals. There was plenty of story telling, audience banter and a set that was solidly populated with new material. It was a genuine musical event. People fronted up to listen and you don’t take that for granted.

“Where did they all come from?” I asked Paul, the promoter.

“Everywhere,” he said.

For the writer in me, Bundalaguah was a very promising sign of things to come as we look to the new year and a packed schedule.

I’m very proud of the people I have around me right now. The Undertow is a crack band. We have great crew and management. There’s a real sense of commitment in our group, to keep new music coming and like all Australians as we look to the future, we are determined to rise above the challenges that Covid has thrown at us.

It’s the collective effort that really matters right now and who knows? There is so much room for inspiration in that idea.

I hope you had a safe and happy Christmas friends. Enjoy the gifts below.

We’ll see you in the new year.
