Jack notes on his bandcamp:
I wrote this song a few years ago about the terrible plight of Asylum Seekers trying to find better life in Australia. Unfortunately, our country is currently run by amoral vandals.
The surge of the sea, the pitch of the boat
The endless emptiness, the horizon
A daughter’s smile, a lover’s embrace
So far away in my head
To be met with cruelty or kindness
The key to the door is in your hands
An ocean apart, waves rolling on
Crowded and cold but alone
Faces of fear but eyes full of love
Turning our backs on our home
To be met with warmth or just indifference
The key to the door is in your hands
chorus
Can’t you see we’re just the same, you and me
Won’t you hear, who will you believe
Trapped in a cage, asleep in the dust
Children are sick and forsaken
No-one to help, no-one to trust
Left us for dead, dignity broken
To be met with cruelty or kindness
The key to the door is in your hands
Can’t you see we’re just the same, you and me
Won’t you hear, who will you believe?
