Now Me:

On facebook..

being excruciatingly reasonable so I don’t say stupid things. Boring I know but here goes:

Our mate defines ‘identity politics’ as ‘People being only defined by what ‘pack’ your in.. or what ‘group’ you’re in..’

Now let me just say, when it comes to congregations.. and believe me, I grew up in a few, there was always the odd punter who defined themselves ONLY by being in that particular church.. or dare I say.. ‘Group’ or ‘pack’..

whatever you wanna call it..

What’s more this has been said to me, ‘unless you accept Jesus into your heart, well, you can’t lay claim to being a Christian’.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

Which meant you were either in.. or you weren’t.

I mean that’s what it sounds like right? There’s no middle. No soft spot where you can sort of muddle around with the idea.

“Have you accepted Jesus into your heart?”
“Aahh.. well, to be perfectly honest, I’m still sort of thinking about it..”
“Well my friend, until you do, I’m afraid you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Goddamn..

See, I’ve known the odd ‘god botherer.’ To whom it was impossible to conduct a light hearted chat about nothing in particular.. without being judged in some way.

You know the type? Who watches your lips move as your speak.. waiting for you to make some theological error.

So at risk of stretching it, simply by law of averages, in ANY given church on any given Sunday.. .. there is bound to be the odd one-eyed punter who believes they’re group is right and all the other ones are WRONG!!

So I have a question: What makes the Pentecostal church so special? If it isn’t a ‘tribe’ then what the hell is it?

AND what’s more.. Using ‘spiritual weapons’ no less?

And yes, apparently all these OTHER packs and groups.. whoever they are..

Who are “Stealing young peoples’ hope and desensitising our country..”

are ‘evil’.

Just between you and me.. I’d be really careful around this guy. As my dearly departed mother used to say,

‘Beware of mutton dressed up as lamb’.
