The other week, I sought more information from the band on the mysterious “Gung”, which can be found a few live recordings from around the era when Payload and The Fireman’s Curse were recorded.
Subtle as a brick, I was informed:
Gunga Din. Jesus H Christ!
This was followed up by the Rob’s softer feedback of:
“You’re a better man than I am, Gunga Din!” (the peom by Rudyard Kipling.)
Which has left me wondering if the initial response was because of this webmaster’s lack of poetry knowledge or the songs reappearance… I suspect the former 🙂
A bit of further research indicates this may even be a cover, as the poem has appeared in songs prior to this version in 1982.
It’s another weird one for the early maddies. You know who you are…
