Awards night or special music event requiring a brass section? Former Hunters and Collectors’ trumpet player Jack Howard is eternally the go-to-guy to bring it all together. Howard’s distinctive arrangements are always in demand. His chops are well intact too as evidenced here on Lost Horizon, his new disc with band The Nightbirds. Nine heartfelt, soulful R’n’B-based tunes, some almost possessing a Bacharach cocktail vibe. Take it neat!
