On Thursday, May 22 Hunters and Collectors will appear at the ENMORE THEATRE, with special guests, Melbourne band Big Pig.

All proceeds from the show will be donated to the Greenpeace organization. Greenpeace is a non-government apolitical group that has been active in Australia for more than 15 years, in such areas as protection of threatened and endangered species: environmental protection, e.g., disarmement [sic], chemical pollution, and anti nuclear issues.

Mark Seymour of Hunters and Collectors had this to say about the organization, and why Hunters want to donate their time, energy and services to organizing this benefit.

“…HUNTERS AND COLLECTORS BELIEVE THAT THE ISSUE OF A NUCLEAR ARMAGEDDON MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO DIE AS A POLITICAL ISSUE, AND SPECIFICALLY THE FRENCH NUCLEAR PRESENCE IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC, WHICH WE FEEL SHOULD BE ENTIRELY REMOVED.

WE FEEL THE MEDIA HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO AT LEAST COMMENT ON THIS, AND AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE; TO PUT IT BEFORE THE PUBLIC, NOT ONLY AS AN ISSUE, BUT AS AN ISSUE THAT CAN BE ADDRESSED AND CHANGED.

WE DECIDED TO DONATE THE PROCEEDS OF THIS CONCERT TO GREENPEACE, AS WE FELT GREENPEACE HAS A TRACK RECORD OF CREATING CONTROVERSY, KEEPING THE ISSUE ALIVE, AND ACTUALLY BEING THERE PHYSICALLY, ON FOOT OR AT SEA, CONSISTENTLY AND WITH DETERMINATION, WHETHER THE OFFENDER IS FRANCE OR ANY OTHER NATION.

GREENPEACE NEEDS MONEY, IT NEVER HAS ENOUGH, SO ON MAY 22 ALL PROCEEDS FROM OUR CONCERT AT THE ENMORE THEATRE WILL BE DONATED TO THE GREENPEACE ORGANIZATION.”

DURING MAY/JUNE THE GREENPEACE SHIP THE ‘VEGA’ WILL EMBARK OF [sic] ANOTHER VOYAGE THROUGHOUT THE PACIFIC, AS PART OF GREENPEACE’S CAMPAIGN FOR A NUCLEAR FREE PACIFIC. THEY LOOK FORWARD TO STRENGTHENING RELATIONS WITH PACIFIC ISLANDERS, AND TO WORK WITH THEM IN DEVELOPING NUCLEAR FREE POLICIES AKIN TO NEW ZEALAND’S. ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS CONCERT WILL ASSIST THE FUNDING OF THIS VOYAGE.

*** ALL PROCEEDS DIRECT TO GREENPEACE ***
