  14. What’s A Few Men?*
  15. Throw Your Arms Around Me

(* were substitutes for Legend of the Snowmen and One More Ride)

A supportive crowd gathered to watch Mark close the festival. Mark and the band were in fine form in the late afternoon sunshine of a Queensland winter day.

In particular, Mark gave a bit of background and conversation about some of the songs. As the festival was in support of the RSL, Mark added What’s A Few Men, a song inspired by his reading of the Albert Facey book ‘A Fortunate Life’. In Mark’s words, it was a song he hadn’t played for a couple of years, but it went well and the crowd gave due respect. Lorelei is coming along in an interesting way too – I think the tempo has been slowed a little, with more of a rock edge than Mark’s previous solo versions.

Jack Howard CD Launch on 4 November!

Stuart : 25 August 2012 12:00 : News

A great opportunity to see Jack coming up at The Caravan, in the name of the fantastic releases coming our way…!

Jack Howard has graced the stage of The Caravan Club in many guises – with the Model Super Orchestra, The Backsliders, JVG’s Grand Final Eve show and Tracy Harvey’s musical, Prick.

He’s Australia’s go-to rock trumpeter; but over the last twelve years, since the demise of Hunters and Collectors, he’s also been quietly releasing his own beautifully-crafted CDs.

Now he’s having a comprehensive look back with – “The Story So Far”, a 15 track Best Of CD together with an 18 track “Live At Pure Pop” DVD, as well as an internet only album of rarities and unreleased tracks, “Reliving Life To The Full” (on jackhoward.bandcamp.com). With a stellar band that includes Mark Ferrie, Cal Mcalpine, Nicky Del Rey, and Ed Bates, Jack will have you dancing in the aisles and crying in your beer (but hopefully not at the same time!)”.

Sunday 04 November 2012
Doors open at 3pm
Price: $20.00+bf (Reserved Seats), $15.00+bf (GA)
$15 at the door

Rob Speaking in Brisbane on Album Art

Stuart : 21 August 2012 12:00 : News

Long Play: The Glory Days of the 12½ Album Cover

by SARAH WERKMEISTER

You walk into a record store and flick through the records, never appreciating their covers unless you pull them out. Artisan have put together a show of classic record covers, ho-hum, alongside banned cover art (did you know that The Strokes, Nirvana and Blur have had banned album covers?), and even interactive LP covers that range from the golden oldies to psychadelic long players. Theres 150 covers being displayed. Oh, and Robert Miles who was the sound engineer / art director for Hunters and Collectors is opening the exhibition. Classic record nerds of the world unite and take over.

WHERE: Artisan, 281 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley
WHEN: Thu Aug 23, 6pm-8pm
HOW MUCH: Free

Stuart : 14 August 2012 12:00 : News

We are excited to today announce ‘From the Vault’, a project that will be delivering unreleased, quality recordings from the deep, dark cupboards of the Hunters and Collectors archives!

To kick start proceedings, we have already uploaded four recordings for the last month – covering the time since the archives were cracked open!

Get these while they are hot – we are only going to have a few online at any time, with one new track planned each week!

A massive thankyou to everyone who made this possible – particularly Rob Miles!
